Why is the Owl Sacred to Santa Muerte?

Along with her scales and her scythe, Mi Santisima Muerte is most often seen accompanied by a special spiritual companion - The owl. The owl is sacred in many cultures and traditions, for a multitude of reasons; the most common being that the owl is seen as a totem of spiritual communication, discernment, and higher wisdom.
When it comes to Santisima Muerte, the owl represents her connection to God and her righteous perspective over the earth. She is granted special permissions to intercede in the lives of her devotees and is given many honorable spiritual responsibilities because of her closeness to God. She is a Saint, after all. And I am always comforted by the notion that while we pray to her, she prays for us, too.
Just as an owl is able to see prey and landscape from over miles away or even in complete darkness, Santisima Muerte is the same way when it comes to her razor sharp discernment. I literally cannot name the amount of times that she has revealed certain information to me that changed the entire course of what decision I made, the company I kept, or how I otherwise carried myself. When you are devoted to her, she will be the first to tell you if something is off in your life (even if it's not what you want to hear - it's always for the best).
The owl also represents Santisima's influence over the spiritual realm and the power of her voice. While the owl is considered a spiritual messenger, Santa Muerte is known for her ability to connect you directly with the other side. She is not only a messenger, but a gatekeeper in this way. Many psychics, mediums and spiritually gifted people are naturally drawn to her for this reason. In my personal experience, she has allowed me to grow closer to my muertos (Ancestors), spirit guides, other Saints, Angelic beings, and even led me back to the Most High.
I have heard that some devotees have seen or heard real life owls when they invoke her or sense that her presence is near. I hope that one day an owl crosses my path, because I will definitely know it's Mi Santa Muerte sending me her love.
