The Spiritual Roles of Santa Muerte 🌟

Updated: Oct 9

Santísima Muerte has many great spiritual responsibilities and celestial powers. Those of us who walk with her already know that she wears many colorful robes that reflect her different abilities. To learn a bit more about some of her robe colors and their attributes, I encourage you to check out my free 7 Day Santísima Muerte devotional. However, in this particular article, I wanted to share a list of her most prevalent spiritual roles.

Angel of Death. From my personal gnosis, Santa Muerte is tasked by God Almighty to cut the cord of our lives with her mighty scythe when it is "our time to go." In this way, she earns the infamous 'grim reaperess' title and often appears to those who are close to dying or even to those who have had a 'near death experience.'

Gatekeeper. Santa Muerte not only leads souls to their final resting places once they have crossed over, but she is responsible for guarding great spiritual mysteries and secrets and only reveals them to her most devoted and faithful followers who seek her for spiritual elevation.

Guardian of the Dead. With her skeletal appearance, it's no secret that Santa Muerte is closely linked to the realm of the dead. She can easily help people venerate, connect with and honor their Ancestors (muertos). She also can help psychics, mediums and other spiritually sensitive people channel messages from the other side with ease.

Protectress of the Innocent & Outcast. Santísima Muerte has a natural inclination to protect those who are outcasted, ridiculed or orphaned. She hates bullies! She champions those who are lonely, lost or may not have much support and provides them with unconditional love. She is also a strong advocate for women and children, especially those who are in impoverished situations or facing any kind of abuse or oppression.

Spiritual Judge. Though it is often said that Santa Muerte doesn't judge, this is only partially true. While she may be neutral at times, it is only because she holds the cosmic scales of justice and she weighs out consequences accordingly. She truly enforces the concept that what you reap is what you sow. She is also very skilled with helping people alleviate legal troubles and win court cases, especially those who have been wrongly accused.

Divine Mother. For many of us who are devoted to Santísima, we see her as a loving, Maternal figure. And for good reason, Santa Muerte is known to spoil and bless her children as long as they follow her guidance and show her the respect she deserves.

Holy Healer. In cases of illnesses and overall bad juju, Santa Muerte has been known to bring speedy and miraculous healings to people and situations that otherwise have seemed hopeless or impossible. In this way, she is truly a miracle worker. And from my own experience, she has made something out of nothing many times over.

Even outside of the roles I have listed, Santa Muerte is truly so much more! I give so much love and praise to Mi Flaquita for all that she does. 🌹
